Yadegar Imam Flyover
Project Outline
Tehran’s ever-growing population, deteriorating air quality and noise pollution, and persisting vestiges of urban sprawls of recent years have combined to pose immense and seemingly insurmountable complications for city residents. Hence, the main objective of Yadegar Imam Highway was to provide a rapid and convenient link between South and North Tehran to ease the great pressure on city commuters and to ensure a healthier environment for local residents. Part of the Yadegar Imam highway project, the three-kilometer flyover built by Kayson is the longest in Iran. The area under the flyover is being turned into a spacious commercial complex. Kayson has designed and is going to build a multi-story parking facility, as well as a high-rise office building on the same site. The flyover, constructed in the fast track mode, was completed by Kayson in 18 months, exactly a year ahead of the contract deadline. Upon completion of the project, Kayson was awarded a First Prize Certificate For the Best Construction Work of the Year (1997) by the Environmental Engineering & Architecture Forum of Iran.
Technical Features
Yadegar Imam Flyover is supported by 92 concrete bridge piers, 17-32 meters apart. Each bridges pier has four columns. The column heads are built of pr-cast concrete segments, with an in-situ reinforced concrete slab placed on the beams. The middle guardrail was also constructed by means of in-situ concrete method. Reinforced earth walls which have proved to perform well against seismic forces were used to build the flyover’s six ramps. It is to be noted that the use of pre-cast concrete segments, on such a scale in various parts of the bridge, including its main structure, had no precedent in Iran
